School readiness assessments

Understanding how ready your child is to start school can help with their transition to Prep and be able to participate and thrive at school. Understanding the building blocks necessary to develop school readiness then ensures your child is ready to further develop their skills when they commence school.

What is a school readiness assessment

A school readiness assessment examines your child’s emotional, social, behaviour, cognitive and general living skills to identify any areas where further support may be required to help your child be prepared to start school. It also explores sensory processing, executive functioning and being able to plan and sequence tasks.

The benefits of a school readiness assessment

A school readiness assessment can assist in identifying any areas where your child may need additional support in the lead up to starting school. This may include building skills around developing friendships with peers, following instructions, following visual cues, being able to get ready to participate and go to activities and developing fine motor skills.

Our approach

We use evidence-based assessments to assess your child’s school readiness. We gather information from parents and educators from your child’s kindergarten as well as doing a range of activities with your child to explore their skills.

Who can benefit?

Your child can benefit by ensuring they are ready for a smooth transition to school. This means they are more likely to enjoy school, engage in learning which grows on foundational skills assessed through a school readiness assessment, and make friends. This can then benefit your family through a more seamless and less stressful experience which allows your child and family enjoy their time together at home.
