Gary enjoys working with a range of presentations across the life span from diverse backgrounds. Gary uses a person-centred approach which ensures that client’s treatment is tailored to their individual needs. He is able to incorporate targeted evidence-based treatments combined with psychodevelopmental assessments. This allows Gary to ensure therapy is targeted at addressing the client’s goals.
Gary has experience working with complex presentations using evidence-based therapies. Gary uses a range of therapies, such as; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches to ensure therapy is delivered in a way that best suits the clients preferred way of engagement. He holds a firm belief of therapy being client centred where he provides support and direction to assist clients in achieving their potential.
Gary has a special interest in working with members of the LGBTIAQ+ community. He has conducted workshops delivering psychoeducation to organisations, schools, and advocating for human rights. Gary’s knowledge allows him to provide a supportive environment where clients can engage with therapy while ensuring their perspective is understood.
Gary also enjoys working with individuals with neurodevelopmental presentations including Autism and ADHD. His experience working with neurodiverse individuals allows him to adapt sessions to suit client’s needs. Gary strongly feels clients are individuals first beyond their presenting concerns and understanding the individual can provide insight into resolving any concerns.
Gary has an extensive history of working with individuals presenting with trauma and trauma related symptoms including PTSD and Substance Use. Gary is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. This allows him to provide an additional method for assisting clients in processing traumatic memories and reducing psychological distress.
Gary has a passion for incorporating Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) into psychological practice. He works in conjunction with his therapy dog Zero to provide a welcoming and comfortable place to engage. The importance he places on trust and respect in the therapeutic relationship ensures clients feel supported and safe.
