Autism assessments
We provide autism assessments for toddlers to adults. We are experienced with recognising and understanding the differences of how autism may present for different genders across the lifespan. Our assessments are neurodivergent affirming and provide an overview of areas of strengths and differences to assist individuals, families and schools/workplaces.
What is an autism assessment?
Autism assessments involve understanding a person’s developmental history, their experience at school and/or work, social interactions, friendships and relationships and preferred activities. Assessments also consider areas of strength and differences, and why they might be challenging. Autism assessments involve seeking information from the person, their family and school where relevant.
The benefits of an autism assessment
Autism assessments can validate an individual’s experience and allow them to understand the why they have certain preferences in how they communicate and engage in daily living. Autism assessments can help families understand the support their child may need to thrive at home, school and at activities. Our assessments can provide a path to seeking supports at school and workplaces.
Our approach
We are committed to using evidence-based approaches to autism assessments based on the latest research to understand how autism may present for different genders at different ages. We use a range of assessment tools which are tailored for each person. Our autism assessments follow the National Guidelines for the assessment and diagnosis of autism.
Our autism assessments also consider whether there are other diagnoses such as anxiety, depression or trauma which may also be impacting a person’s daily life. We also consider a person’s functioning and how this impacts their capacity to engage in everyday activities.
Who can benefit?
Where a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is made based on established diagnostic criteria it can help the individual and their family understand their communication preferences, their social interactions, sensory preferences and why they may like some activities more than others. This can help individuals, their families and their supports such as school and friends to increase their understanding of them and how they may be able to work together to improve connections and experiences.
Where a diagnosis is made, our autism assessments can assist with seeking eligibility to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) where relevant.
